Work out to sleep better: Exersizes to improve sleep

Having trouble getting your zzzs? Regular exercise has been shown to improve the quantity and quality of sleep. How?

It doesn’t have to be anything too complicated: activities such as walking, running, swimming, and yoga have been proven to improve sleep. That is because exercise helps raise the body’s temperature and regulate the sleep-wake cycle. You do not even need to do an hour of strenuous exercise in order to sleep better.

STRETCH IT OUT

A vigorous yoga workout raises body temperature and often ends with gentle breathing, which helps the body relax.

STEP INTO RELAXATION

Most people underestimate the benefits of walking and how convenient it is to do anywhere. Whether you take a casual walk around the block or a strenuous brisk walk through a park, walking can be extremely relaxing - especially if done outside.

LIFT OFF

Weights combined with cardiovascular exercise is a great workout. Strength training builds muscle, which requires energy, and helps you relax and sleep.

SKIP SOME ROPE

This simple activity can make for both - a vigorous workout with different jump techniques during the day, and also a simple exercise to tire you just enough for bedtime.

BREATHE INTO BLISSFUL SLUMBER

Often overlooked, meditation and breathing exercises are a very simple way to relax and calm the brain, especially when done just before bed. However, meditation does require a fair amount of practice and dedication for you to start to feel its benefits.

The timing of your exercises matters as much as the exercise itself. If your exercise is a little more energetic, you might want to exercise a little earlier in the day. As a rule however, it’s best to schedule your workout at least 3 hours before bedtime. If you’re trying something lighter, you can do it a little later.

MidNite® can help for occasional sleeplessness while you’re getting your body used to an exercise routine and activating your sleep cycle.* However if your sleeplessness persists, you should consult your physician.
